planet base wrap up

I did really well at my last attempt of planet base. I followed my rules and and got to around 30 people, I was able to keep enough food and energy to keep the base going. I was very close to building a star port but I did however build a telescope and meteor laser. It was a lot of resources to build but it was worth it. At one point my oxygen generator got hit and I lost 2 people.

Fort Kick ass 3.0

Today I made my 3rd attempt at planet base after my first tow died horribly. I've learned if there was ever a colony that need my instruction for survival I should probably not accept. My 2nd attempt I learned until you are sustainable speed is key. my space ship landed and I leisurely built things like an airlock, water extractor, and a oxygen pump,I hadn't built a power source yet. it turned to night and I was stuck with no power and no way to make air or water so within 2 minuets game was over and 7 people were lost. My third attempt i did very well and moved with speed to power through the building process and to reach sustainability. I found from previous games to make sure you have enough food, bio plastic, and metal, without those your S.O.L.

So far I have 21 people right before I saved and quit. my base is very self sustainable and ready to go. i'm expecting to progress really well tomorrow following the list of rules I made for my self.
  1.  Don't try to build something if you don't have enough resources.
  2. Don't continuously add people to your base because you will not be able to support them
  3. Make sure you have a lot of spares and food all the time, they will come in handy.
  4. it takes a lot but build a telescope and a meteor preventer, they become a huge pain
  5. Be awesome and creative always :)
Today my plan for the game is to not expand to much to quick and keep a solid food supply. this will ensure my guarantee of survival.

Planet Base first attempt

Today i played Planet Base. Released on Oct 15 2015 its a cutting edge simulator that takes place on a martian planet. I played about 50 minuets and built a huge base. within 10 minuets of hitting my prime with 14 people and almost all the buildings i ran out of food and people died off. i lost 12 people within 5 minuets.
My prime reached about 21 buildings and 14 people. that's no where near the top of what you can reach. i started off by building an oxygen pump and a water extractor. without these you wont make it 2 minuets. next i built an airlock and a canteen. the airlock is for a "front door" to your base, its how your people will enter the base. the canteen is for eating and drinking water which is key to survival. A tip i learned is not to back your base into a dead end. when i hit my prime i ran out of room and had to make weird, expensive additions to gain more room. ALWAYS pre-plan your base. Separate your buildings, from energy area, food and medicine, lab and research. Keep everything organized, this will make it way easier later on in the game when you have a lot of people and buildings. stay on top of your metal and food supply, i found these to be most important. energy and water are very easy to maintain if you make smart choices. i do recommend taking your time advancing your base because you wil run out of resources and not have enough people to take care of everything. I found the Landing pad to be very useful for the trading and new people all the time. i didn't make it to the point where i could buy a star port but i came close. id imagine its a great investment.
This screenshot is when everything started going downhill. i ran out of food and power.
I recycled most buildings in hopes i could make a return but i was definetly over. the one below is my last two men

Planet Base Tutorial

Today I played the tutorial for Planet base. It ran really nicely and smooth.

You start off by having 7 crew members and 2 robots, so with a team of 9 your first task is to build an oxygen converter and an airlock, following that you must build a water extractor and a source of power for it to run.

The tutorial was very straight forward and gave you little freedoms to place what you want where you want but it was what i was expecting from it. it gave you all the little tips and tricks like using (w,a,s,d) to move to the camera and (q,e) to rotate it. I found if you quickly follow the instruction of the tutorial you wont run into any trouble. some useful things to know is that most of the command buttons in the top right of the screen are assigned buttons on your keyboard so you don't have to fuss with the mouse to get what you want, like (+) and (-) buttons are zoom in and zoom out. Another useful button is TAB, it lets you see through the roof of the building so you can place or simply look at the well designed textures

After the first couple tasks the game becomes fast paced and exciting, well exciting for a sim anyway. I could easily see how in the full game it could become very challenging to keep everything good, from the resources to over population to enemy's and meteors this game has a lot of PvE action. while i think in the future you should be able to make soldiers and other things to attack your friends bases. This game is very well put together and deserves a 7/10

planet base

Planet Base is a new simulator that came out mid October. The goal of the game is to build a self sufficient base producing oxygen food and water. starting with only a few pioneers you have to build your base, population and security to protect from dehydration, suffocation, intruders, solar flares, and  many other things. being a simulator you must progress through the ranks to unlock new things and to win. the game looks very well put together and coded considering its smaller budget for a lot of games. I think this game could fit in nicely to the PC gaming race. Though it has no real finishing objective its a really good sim and could provide hours of martian fun
